Apparently, you have to book months in advance for the indoor tour (noted). Maybe next time. Surprisingly there weren’t many people on the day I went (lucky me I guess). The Smithsonian Museums

Lincoln’s Cottage
It’s a shame how many tourists don’t actually know about Abraham Lincoln’s Cottage. This is actually the site where the Emancipation Proclamation was developed! A multitude of special events are held year-round, and there is even a private venue you can rent for special events. You can check it out daily from 9:30 to 4:30.
